Abstract
Iatrogenic injury to the facial nerve may occur during any surgical procedure around the mastoid and middle ear. When the nerve was recognized to be disrupted, it should be repaired immediately. When a segment of the facial nerve is disrupted, the best functional results are obtained with nerve grafting. There has been no report in the literature on direct observation after facial nerve grafting. The authors performed the nerve grafting in facial nerve injury after simple mastoidectomy. During follow-up, the cholesteatoma was diagnosed and eradicated by surgical resection. We observed the successful anastomosis of the previous nerve grafting during a revision mastoidectomy 22 months after nerve grafting.
